Picture and Lubok
Visitors to Russian markets marveled at the ingenuity and variety of the toys on display. All the materials used by peasant and town artisans for other purposes were also available for fashioning toys. The skills and workshop practices used for the production of carved and painted wooden utensils, ceramic dishes, fabrics and ornamental items were readily adapted to the making of wood, clay, tin, papier-mache, and cloth toys.
