Ladies and Husars

Ladies and Hussars were a traditional type of toy made mainly in Sergiev Posad and Bogorodskoe, but also in Dymkovo and Kargopol'. The painted figures depicting military men and their slightly frivolous companions were especially popular in the mid-19th century. Hussars carried traditional military attributes such as sabers and telescopes and the Ladies had cats, baskets with flowers and fruits, and parasols.
