Wooden toys Bogorodskoe toy production is one of the traditional folk crafts. It was started in the village of Bogorodskoe, in the Sergiev Posad district of Moscow province. The village about 25 km from Sergiev Posad, once spread along banks of the Kuniya River. Early in its history the village belonged a prosperous landowner but at the end of 16th century it became a part of Trinity-Sergiev Monastery. |

The Bogorodskoe toy craft probably started at the end of the18th century, based on local folk traditions and wood carving produced for the monastery. The earliest known objects of the craft date to the early 19th century. Masters in Bogorodskoe and Sergiev Posad worked in cooperation. Wooden figures were carved in Bogorodskoe and painted in Sergiev Posad. ...
