Grandmother's Storage Chest

   In old times there was a saying " Put a girl in the cradle, put the linen in the box". It meant that a trousseau of Russian peasant girl was collected from the moment of her birth. She could not be worthy of a good marriage without worthy trousseaus. Up to the middle of 19th century a trousseaus was put into the braid bast boxes called korob or korobka or korobeika. Later it was put into the wooden storage chests embellished with carving, painting, metal decoration (metal applique chased strips).
