The “Paraskeva” Handweaving Club
In many towns and cities crafts people gather in folk art centers and clubs.
One such club called “Paraskeva” was organized more than 10 years ago.
The name of the club honors the Russian Saint Paraskeva – Pyatnitsa, who is a
patroness of spinning and weaving.
The “Paraskeva” Handweaving Club has as its
goal the revival and teaching of traditional weaving techniques. Their synthesis of
theory and practice, of study and experiment, not only preserves traditions of textile
arts but also leads to new discoveries. For the Paraskeva Club’s members, the textile
arts, based on natural products, reinforce the harmonious relationship between
humanity and our environment.
