Valance of a Bed Sheet, Table Cloth
Embroidery developed in distinct styles in every region, but achieved the most varied and sumptuous forms in the north of Russia, especially in Arkhangelsk, Vologda, Olonets, and Tver' provinces. The wide range of stitches - satin stitch, cross-stitch and half-cross-stitch, a slanted darning stitch, brick stitch, chain stitch, hooked stitch, and many types of drawn-thread work - allowed a great deal of flexibility in creating designs.
