     Today the village Bogorodskoye has a traditional center for the production of wooden toys. Svetlana Nikolaevna Ulasevich is among the students who graduated from the Bogorodskoye wood carving school in 1978. She has been a member of the Russian Union of Artists since 1989.

     Svetlana Ulasevich is a sculptor and a virtuoso carver of wooden toys. Her works are distinguished by a combination of traditional Bogorodskoye wood carving style, the general traditions of Russian folk art, and her unique vision and improvisation.

     Her toys are found in the Russian Museum of Applied and Folk Art, Moscow; the Art Pedagogical Museum of Toys of the Russian Academy of Education, Sergiev Posad; the Sergiev Posad State History and Art Museum-Reserve, Sergiev Posad; the Children's Museum of Baden, Switzerland; and in numerous private collections in Russia, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Norway, France and the United States. She has participated in numerous exhibitions in Russia and abroad.

     In 2007, Svetlana's unique wood carvings were selected for a juried competition in the United States. She became one of the first Russian artists to be represented at the International Folk Art Market in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

     The Santa Fe International Folk Art Market is a partnership of the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs, Museum of International Folk Art, and Museum of New Mexico Foundation, with major funding provided by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
